FAQS

WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?

Acupuncture is a natural system of healing that originated in China thousands of years ago. It has developed and evolved through centuries of clinical practice and is now more widely accepted than ever. Its success and longevity can be attributed to its simple, effective approach.

QI and BLOOD?

Qi (or life-energy) and blood are the vital substances that make healthy life possible. Qi (pronounced “chee”) circulates through a system of meridians or channels. When Qi and blood are in good supply and circulating well, there is good health. When they are in short supply and not circulating well, there is illness / disease / poor health. This can happen when there is stress, overwork, poor diet, poor rest, exposure to pathogens, weather and other environmental conditions, other lifestyle problems or physical trauma. All these factors are considered along with an analysis of the wrist pulse and medical history to determine what treatment is appropriate. From sports injuries to medically diagnosed diseases, in TCM, all are disharmonies of Qi and blood.

HOW DOES ACUPUNCTURE WORK?

Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles into specific points along the body’s meridians. Other techniques include moxibustion and cupping. All these techniques encourage the normal flow of Qi and blood by removing blockages and stimulate the body’s ability to produce Qi and blood so that they are in good supply.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF TCM?

TCM approaches healing in a holistic manner, addressing the links between the body, mind and emotions. It is a natural form of medicine that offers safe, effective treatment without side effects. It works gently to encourage the natural state of balance in the body, treating both the root of the illness as well as symptoms.
